It’s been a long wait but we are finally getting the Hollywood adaptation of the classic Manga franchise ‘Ghost In The Shell’. Below is a compilation of the first five teaser trailers of the film (apologies for the quality):
In them we see Scarlett Johansson as cyborg detective The Major, and Japanese cinema icon ‘Beat’ Takeshi Kitano as Cheif Daisuke Aramaki. Some shots mimic the award winning 1995 anime film based on the same characters. As we can see here the film will capture the glitchy, industrial aesthetic of the source material.
The full film will be released March 2017.
as a big fan of the original manga and anime, I am glad this has been given the Hollywood treatment. There were a few criticisms over Scarlett Johanssson playing The Major (Kusanagi) over a Japanese actor. I feel she was chosen for her acting rather than race. As we have seen from her recent roles in Lucy and Under The Skin, she is the perfect choice for this role. We also get to see the Japanese film legend Beat Takeshi in a Hollywood film for once. If you haven’t heard of him, you will have heard his name. Yep, Takeshi’s Castle – that’s him. He is Takeshi. I can’t wait to see this film.
